A couple of days back I got the opportunity to test the services of Saal Digital.
Since I just got back from a 2-month trip to the United States of America, it was the perfect opportunity to create a nice album of my most recent photos.
But before we get into the review, let’s start from the beginning. What is Saal Digital and what do they offer?
Saal Digital is a professional photo lab, specialized in high-quality photo products, including photo books, photo prints, posters, calendars, greeting cards, wall decors, as well as photo gifts.
Now that we know what we’re dealing with, let’s see how the creation process of a photo book works.
First of all, the whole process of designing your photo book couldn’t be simpler.
All you do, is download the free “Saal Digital Design Software” and follow the steps to pick the specs for your book.
Would you like to have a padded black leather cover with matte pages? Or would you rather have an unpadded linen cover with glossy pages? It honestly doesn’t matter. There’s a big variety of different options of which you can choose from to create exactly the photo book that you want. Everything is just a click away and that makes it super simple.
These were my choices:
Size: 28 x 19
Cover Padding: Yes
Spreads: Photo Paper Glossy
Gift Box: None
Once you’re done choosing all of your specs it’s time to start laying out your photos. Simply drag and drop, move, resize, reposition, rotate etc. your photos to your liking until you’re satisfied.
For my books cover, I added a background photo as well as my logo.
Since I decided to go with my favorite photos from my recent US trip, I dedicated 5 double pages to each of the 3 cities I’ve visited, which makes a total of 30 pages. At the beginning of each new city I used one page to add a text box with the name of the city.
Delivery was super-fast. I placed my order on the 7th of May 2019, at around 10:30pm and I received it on the 9th of May 2019.
The book arrived in a flat cardboard box and was additionally wrapped in a soft foam cushion sheet.
First thing I noticed was the high quality of it. The print quality of the photo and my logo on the matte, padded cover looks amazing. Furthermore, the padded cover feels really good and is soft to the touch.
Now let’s get into the book.
The photo paper is pretty thick, feels significant enough and the “LayFlat” binding makes it look very clean.
The print of the photos is absolutely gorgeous. It’s very clean, sharp and the colors pop and look amazing. That proves it once again:
Print your photos people! It makes a huge difference then just seeing them on your screens. You’ll love them even more.
Still, there is one point of criticism I have.
There is no extra paper cover page at the very beginning or at the very end of the book. That sounds like a minor complaint, but I believe that by adding this one more page it will definitely boost its value and overall presentation.
Especially since the very first and last photo are having press marks from being glued to the cover.
So, what are my final thoughts?
I’m very happy with the result and quality of the photo book. The amount of freedom mixed with the simplicity of creating this photo book is just great. It keeps the focus on the photos and what kind of message they convey.
So, I’d definitely recommend getting a photo book or any other photo prints done by Saal Digital. The print quality is amazing and I’m glad to have this photo book with some of my favorite photos from my most recent trip to the US.
